10 LED indicators
ON

SIGNAL = Signal indicator
LIMIT
= Limiter indicator: Lights up when
the signal level is too high; the lim-
iter will reduce the signal level to
protect the speaker.
11 Input MIC IN (combined 6.3 mm jack / XLR,
bal.) to connect a microphone
12 Stereo input LINE IN (combined 6.3 mm jacks/
XLR, bal.) to connect a signal source with line
output level (e. g. mixer, CD / MP3 player)
13 Output LINE OUT (XLR, unbal.)
At this output, the signal of the input LINE IN
(12) is available; either as a mono signal or
only the signal of the right channel, can be
selected by means of the selection switch
(14).
14 Switch to select the operating mode
MONO = The speaker column reproduces
the signal of the input LINE IN (12)
monophonically; the monophonic
input signal is available at the out-
put LINE OUT (13).
RIGHT = The speaker column reproduces
the left channel of the input LINE
IN; the input signal of the right
channel is available at the output
LINE OUT.
15 Mono input COMBI IN (combined 6.3 mm jack/
XLR, bal.) to connect a microphone
16 Stereo input AUX IN (RCA jacks and 3.5 mm
jack, unbal.) to connect a signal source with
line output level
17 Output MIX OUT (XLR, unbal.) to send the
mixed mono signal to an additional amplifier,
for example
18 Output REC OUT (RCA) to connect a re -
corder
6
At this output, the mixed stereo signal is
available.
19 Support for the mains fuse
Always replace a blown fuse by one of the
same type.

Safety Notes
The unit corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING The unit is supplied with danger-
ous mains voltage. Leave servic-
ing to skilled personnel only! Inex-
pert handling may result in electric
shock.
Please observe the following items in any case:
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect
G
it against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity and heat (admissible ambient
temperature range: 0 – 40 °C).
Do not place any vessel with liquid on the unit,
G
e. g. a drinking glass.
Do not operate the unit and immediately dis-
G
connect the mains plug from the socket
1. if the unit or the mains cable is visibly dam-
aged,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit
was dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled
personnel.
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
G
mains plug from the socket, always seize the
plug.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never
G
use water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liabil-
G
ity for any resulting personal damage or mate-
rial damage will be accepted if the unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it
is not correctly connected or operated, or if it is
not repaired in an expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful
to the environment.
3 Applications
The active 3-way column speaker system
C-RAY/ 8 can be used for various PA applica-
tions. The individual components of the C- RAY/8
(1 subwoofer module, 2 column modules) can be
connected so that the C- RAY/ 8 is also ideally
suited for mobile applications. Two class D
amplifiers, each with a power of 200 W
available for the low-frequency and the mid-high
frequency ranges.
Two audio units and two microphones can
be connected to the 4-channel mixer unit. For
sound adjustment and frequency splitting, the
audio signals pass a digital signal processor
(DSP) that also includes a signal limiter.

4 Installation

1) Place the subwoofer module on an even, hor-
izontal surface (floor).
2) Start with the column module where a 6.3 mm
jack is located on the upper side. Place the
column module – turned by approx. 20° to the
left – onto the connector of the subwoofer
module and then turn it to the right stop so
that it is firmly engaged.
3) Proceed in the same way to connect the sec-
ond column module to the first one.
4) If the tweeters located in the centre of the
connected columns do not have the optimal
.
height (ear s height), use the adapter piece
C- RAY/ 8EXT (available as an option) to
increase the height of the column modules.

5 Connecting the Units

To avoid interfering noise, switch off the speaker
system or turn the controls LINE, MIC, COMBI
and AUX (1 – 4) to the position MIN prior to con-
necting/disconnecting.
5.1 Microphones and audio units
1) To connect microphones to the balanced
jacks MIC IN (11) and COMBI IN (15), use an
XLR plug or a 6.3 mm plug.
2) Various input jacks are available for the con-
nection of audio units (e.g. mixer, receiver of
wireless
microphone
player):
Stereo input LINE IN (12):
The jacks (combined 6.3 mm/XLR) are
balanced. However, it is also possible to
use 2-pole jacks to connect units with
unbalanced output.
Stereo input AUX IN (16):
The RCA jacks or the 3.5 mm jack can be
used.
3) For audio recordings, connect the input of a
recorder to the RCA jacks REC OUT (18). At
these jacks, the mixed signal adjusted by
means of the controls LINE, MIC, COMBI and
AUX (1 – 4) is available.
5.2 Second C- RAY/ 8
A second C- RAY/ 8 can be used to provide
sound to a larger area and to reproduce stereo
sound.
To provide mono sound to a larger area, con-
nect the jack MIX OUT (17) of the first C- RAY/ 8
to the jack LINE IN L (12) of the second C- RAY/ 8.
To connect a third C- RAY/ 8, connect the
jack LINE OUT (13) of the second speaker sys-
tem to the jack LINE IN L of the third speaker
system. Proceed in the same way to connect any
further C- RAY/ 8; set the selection switch (14) on
all speaker systems to the position MONO.
Thus, it is possible to adjust the overall volume
on the first C- RAY/ 8 and to separately adjust the
, are
RMS
volume of the other C- RAY/ 8 systems by means
of the corresponding control LINE (1).
To reproduce stereo sound, two connection
options are available:
1. Separate connection of the stereo channels
Send the signals for the left and right chan-
nels separately to two C- RAY/ 8 systems.
systems,
