Accessories needed:

Protective clothing

Neutral detergent
•
Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) at 1 000 ppm (0.1%) of available chlorine
•
Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) at 10 000 ppm (1%) of available chlorine
•
Warm water
•
Disposable cloths
•
Disposable paper towels
The bed should be cleaned and disinfected weekly, and before a new patient uses the bed.
Cleaning and disinfecting between patients
Cleaning
1. Remove the mattress and any accessories from the bed.
2. Remove headboard, footboard and mattress platform sheets from the bed.
3. Clean all surfaces with a disposable cloth moistened with water and neutral detergent.
Start with the upper sections of the bed and work along all horizontal surfaces.
Work methodically towards the lower sections of the bed and clean the wheels last.
4. Wipe over with a new disposable cloth moistened with water, and dry with disposable
paper towels.
5. Allow the cleaned parts to dry.
Disinfection
6. After cleaning the bed, wipe all surfaces with sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) at
a concentration of 1,000 parts per million (0.1%) of available chlorine. In case of pooling
body fluids, e.g. blood, the concentration of NaDCC should be increased to 10,000 parts
per million (1%) of available chlorine.
7. Wipe over with a new disposable cloth moistened with clean water and dry with
disposable paper towels.
8. Place mattress back on the bed.
