DESCRIPTION OF VIKING SOLAS 90N
VIKING SOLAS 90N is an automatically inflatable
lifejacket. It has been approved acc. to EU Council
Directive 96/98/EC on Marine Equipment. The lifejacket
consists of a double compartment buoyancy chamber
which fully inflated provides a buoyancy of min. 90
Newton. The lifejacket is intended for children weighing
from 9 kg to 43 kg.
VIKING SOLAS 90N is available with either two automatic
Halkey Roberts inflators or two automatic Hammar
inflators.

TRAINING BEFORE USE
Make yourself familiar with the functioning of the
lifejacket and test it in a swimming pool or another safe
conditions before starting to use it. Wear your normal
clothes during training.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Put your left arm through the jacket at the strap.
Pull it over your head.
2. Close the buckle.
3. Adjust the waist strap.
4. Fasten the snap hook and adjust the crutch
strap.
5. The lifejacket is automatically inflated when
immersed in water, but can also be manually
inflated by a strong pull of the release line
protruding from the cover.
6. Inflated lifejacket.
7. The light can be activated/deactivated by
pressing the switch on the front of the light.
Inflation of VIKING SOLAS 90N may be effected in
three ways:
a: Automatic inflation:
The lifejacket inflates approx. 5 seconds after
immersion into the water.
b: Manual inflation:
The lifejacket inflates on a strong pull of the release
line protruding from the right side of the lifejacket.
In case this chamber does not work, the second
chamber may be activated by a strong pull of the
release line protruding from the left side of the
proctetive cover.
c: Oral inflation:
Open the protective cover and blow air into one of
the oral inflation tubes.
WARNING: Although it has been tested to withstand
excess pressure, do not ever inflate the lifejacket by
mouth prior to automatic or manual inflation.

MAINTENANCE

Maintenance of your lifejacket is essential to your safety
if an emergency situation should occur. The lifejacket
must be serviced annually by a VIKING certified servicing
station (please contact VIKING LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT
A/S for addresses).
Note: If the lifejacket is equipped with a Halkey Roberts
inflator, the bobbin must be replaced annually from first
use. Do not use bobbins more than four years old. The
production date is printed on the bobbin itself.
4.1 CHECKING THE LIFEJACKET BEFORE USE
Lifejacket with Halkey Roberts inflator:
1. Check that the lifejacket is undamaged.
The lifejacket can be inflated orally and
repacked as described under Packing (4.3).
(Note: Do not activate the automatic inflators).
2. Open the protective cover and check the
inflators (see drawing):
a: The green indicator must be visible.
b: The lifejacket is to be equipped with 24 g
CO
-cylinders.

c: The opening of the CO
be perforated – check that it is intact by un-
screwing the CO
3. Check the oral inflation valve and tube.
4. Check the light and whistle.
5. Check straps and buckles.
6. Close the protective cover.
Lifejacket with Hammar inflator.
1. Open the protective cover at both sides and
check the inflators.
Note: The inflator will not function if:
• air is trapped inside the buoyancy chamber
• expiry date is overdue.
• the indicator placed at the yellow hydrostatic
inflator is red.
The hydrostatic inflator can only be opened using a
special tool enclosed in the spare parts set.
2. Check oral inflation valve and tube.
3. Check whistle.
4. Check straps and buckles.
5. Check that the lifejacket is undamaged.
The lifejacket can be inflated orally and
repacked as described under Packing (4.3).
(Note: Do not activate the inflators).
6. Close the protective cover.
IMPORTANT: If the lifejacket is not intact, do not use it.
The release line must be on the outside of the cover.
4.2 CLEANING
Clean the lifejacket in mild soapy water only.
