Progressive scan

The unit supports the progressive
scanning system as well as the con-
ventional interlaced scanning sys-
tem. If your TV is equipped with com-
ponent video input jacks which sup-
port the progressive video input, you
can enjoy high quality picture by
making the progressive scanning
mode active.

NOTES:
• Some discs may not be played back correctly at the progressive scan mode according to the disc characteris-
tics or recording condition.
• There are some progressive TV and High-Definition TV sets that are not fully compatible with the unit, resulting
in an unnatural picture when playing back a DVD disc in the progressive scan mode. If your TV is not fully
compatible with the unit, use the interlaced scanning mode.
• You cannot activate the progressive scan mode when the unit is in the VCR mode, and when the DVD disc is
currently playing.

Preparation:
• Connect to a TV equipped with component jacks which support the
progressive video input.
• Turn ON the TV and switch the TV to it's component input channel.
• Press DVD/VCR to select DVD mode. (The DVD indicator will light.)

Press PROGRESSIVE in the stop mode. The PROGRESSIVE in-
dicator " " on the display window will light.
• The unit recognizes the picture source (film or video) of the cur-
rent disc according to the disc information.

Press PLAY to start playback.

• Press PROGRESSIVE in stop mode to make the progressive
scanning mode inactive. The PROGRESSIVE indicator "
the display window will go off.
Warnings:
• If "Progressive" is selected when connecting to a TV on which pro-
gressive scan is incompatible, no picture will be seen on the screen.
You can reset the unit to the "Interlace" setting by pressing STOP on
the front panel for five seconds. Then you can watch a picture on a
conventional TV.
• If "Progressive" is selected when connecting to a TV via 21 pin scart
cable, "PROGRESSIVE OUTPUT. STOP DISC PLAYBACK THEN
PRESS PROGRESSIVE TO CANCEL." will appear on the screen.
Press STOP to end playback, then press PROGRESSIVE. You can
watch a picture on a TV via 21 pin scart cable.
Different scanning modes
Interlaced scan
Technology that alternately displays odd-numbered scanning lines and
even-numbered scanning lines. Also called "480i", "i" meaning "interlace".
Progressive scan
Technology that simultaneously displays odd-numbered scanning lines
and even-numbered scanning lines from top to bottom. Also called "480p",
"p" meaning "progressive".
The 625 signal is the standard PAL component signal that includes flyback
and teletext data commonly used on CRT products.
The 580 signal is the same a 625 less the flyback data. On LCD-TV's
which support the 580 signal, the unit processes the 625 signal and re-
moves the flyback data making it 580.
The 576 signal is the same as 580 less the teletext data. On Non-CRT
equipment such as projection systems that don't have the ability to show
teletext, the unit processes the 625 signal and removes the flyback and
teletext data making it 576.
If you operation manual for your display device lists 625, 580 and 576,
this Recorder will support the display device.
