5.7 Fault Pressure Relief Device (FPRD)
Also commonly referred to as an Explosion Relief Device (Fig.9), this device facilitates the rapid release of gas
pressure in the event of an internal fault. This device should not be confused with a standard Automatic
Pressure Relief Valve as shown in (Fig. 3), which only releases pressure slowly to account for thermal
expansionand contraction. APRD is covermounted and equipped with aspring loadeddiaphragm that is
factory set to open at a predetermined pressure level (Typically 10 psi). After the tank pressure returns to
normal the Diaphragm will close and reseal the unit. The FPRD is equipped with an indicator (yellow button on
top) that will protrude vertically after an event until it is reset.
The FPRD can also be supplied with SPDT alarm contacts for remote monitoring.
