preferably   l ubricate   y our   b rake   c ables   b efore   t he   w eather   b ecomes   t oo   c old   a nd  
starts   f reezing.   T his   w ill   p revent   t he   i nner   c able   f rom   f reezing   t o   t he   o uter   c able,  
which   w ill   r educe   t he   e ffectiveness   o f   t he   c ables.
 
Adjusting   t he   b rakes   a nd   g ears
 
Adjusting   t he   b rakes   c an   e asily   b e   d one   y ourself   u sing   t he   a djusting   b olts   o f   t he  
disc   b rakes.   T o   a djust   t he   r ear   b rake,   t urn   t he   a djusting   b olt   a way   f rom   t he   b rake  
hub.   B y   d oing   t his,   y ou   i ncrease   t he   p ressure   o n   t he   b rake   c able.   T he   p arking  
brake   i s   l inked   t o   t he   f ront   b rakes.   T o   i mprove   t he   e ffectiveness   o f   t he   p arking  
brake   y ou   s hould   t ighten   b oth   f ront   b rakes.   Y ou   c an   d o   t his   b y   t urning   t he  
adjusting   b olts   a way   f rom   t he   b rake   h ub.   M ake   s ure   t o   a djust   b oth   f ront   b rakes  
equally.   Y ou   c an   a djust   t he   g ears   b y   t urning   t he   e nd   o f   t he   b rake   c able,   w hich   i s  
attached   t o   t he   h andle   b ars.   T o   a djust   t he   h ighest   g ear   y ou   s hould   t ighten   t he  
adjusting   b olt,   b y   t he   w heel,   a nd   t o   a djust   t he   l owest   g ear   y ou   s hould   l oosen   t he  
adjusting   b olt.
 
 
Lubricating   t he   c hain
 
You   s hould   m aintain   y our   b ike   c hain   b y   u sing   a   c hain   l ubricant.   S lowly   t urn   t he  
crank   ( just   t urn   t he   b ike   p edal)   b ackwards   w hile   l ubricating   t he   c hain.   W hen  
using   l ubricant,   y ou   s hould   d rip   i t   o nto   t he   c hain   o ne   l ink   a t   a   t ime.   W hen   y ou  
have   l ubricated   t he   c hain,   t urn   t he   c rank   f orwards   a nd   b ackwards   t o   e nsure   t hat  
the   l ubricant   i s   w ell   s pread   o ut   o ver   t he   c hain.   T hen   u se   a   d ry   p iece   o f   c loth   t o  
remove   e xcess   l ubricant   f rom   t he   c hain.   T he   l ubricant   s hould   b e   o n   t he   i nside   o f  
the   c hain,   n ot   o n   t he   o utside.
 
 

Tires

 
You   s hould   c arefully   m onitor   t he   a ir   p ressure   o f   y our   t ires.   B y   r egularly   i nflating  
the   t ires,   t he   b icycle   w ill   c ontinue   t o   f eel   l ight   w hen   r iding   a nd   t he   t ires   w ill   l ast  
longer.   T he   t ires   c an   b e   i nflated   u sing   a   b icycle   p ump   w ith   a   w oods   v alve  
adaptor.   T he   t ires   o n   a   B abboe   a re   D utch   a nd   a re   n ot   s tandard   t ires.   W oods   v alve  
adaptors   c an   b e   p urchased   i n   m ost   l ocal   b ike   s hops.
