Precautions on the learning
operation
• Do not press any operation button on
the DV/DVCAM camcorder during
the learning operation. If you do, an
operational error or measurement
error may occur.
• The tape used in the learning
operation should not contain any
parts recorded in drop frame mode or
non-drop frame mode. If it does, an
error may occur during editing
(NTSC only).
• If possible, use a tape recorded on a
Sony DV/DVCAM camcorder for
the learning operation. Do not use a
tape which contains the following:
— Switching of the recording mode
during recording.
— Interrupted recording.
— Unstable video sync signal.
— Frequent dropout.
— Discontinously recorded time
code or time code not recorded to
the end of the recorded portion
(in the case of tape recorded on a
DV/DVCAM camcorder that
supports time code).
• The LEARN lamp and the power
lamp of the BKNW-25 may turn off
during a learning operation if the
time code recorded on the tape
cannot be reproduced due to the poor
condition of the recording. If this
happens, perform the learning
operation again.
• Do not use a DV/DVCAM
camcorder which is set to turn off
automatically after a specific period
of non-operation (and thus might
turn off during the learning
operation).
• If no operational characteristics of
the DV/DVCAM camcorder are
stored in memory, the digital VCR
will support only the following jog
dial operations: normal playback,
pause, and picture search.
• When you perform a learning
operation with a DV/DVCAM
camcorder connected through the
LANC connectors, you will not
obtain as precise editing results and
quick response as with a VCR
connected through an RS-422A/
232C interface. Also, depending on
the DV/DVCAM camcorder model
(with the LANC connector), some
playback speed variations that can be
initiated on the digital VCR or
remote controller may not be
detected in the learning operation. If
such a camcorder is used, you cannot
use the jog dial on the VCR to
perform jog/shuttle playback on the
DV/DVCAM camcorder.
