The flatlock stitch need not be limited at seamlines.
When sewn on a fold, flatlocking can create attractive
d ec orat iv e ef f ec t s w it h in t h e b od y of a g arm ent or
project. Either follow placement lines on your pattern
or d es ig n your ow n s pec ial ef f ec t s b y s t it c h ing t h e
f ab ric b ef ore laying out pat t ern piec es .
1. Set the machine for 2-thread flatlock - wide.
2 . T urn t h e c ut t ing b lad e loc k ing d ial c loc k w is e t o d is en-
g ag e t h e upper c ut t ing b lad e.
3. Set the stitch length to desired setting appropriate for
t h e t h ic k nes s of your d ec orat iv e t h read .
4. Fold the fabric (right side or wrong side out,depending
on t h e loop or lad d er ( pag e 3 4 ) s t it c h you w ant t o
s h ow ) along s t it c h plac em ent lines .
5 . P os it ion t h e f ab ric und er t h e pres s er f oot , alig ning t h e
f old of t h e f ab ric 1 / 8 inc h ( 3 . 5 m m ) t o t h e lef t of t h e
upper cutting blade. (fig. A)
6. Stitch to the desired ending point.
7. Clear the stitch fingers and chain off the fabric.(fig. B)
8 . C lip t h read s , leav ing a 3 - 4 inc h ( 7 . 5 - 1 0 c m ) c h ain.
9. Gently pull the fabric to flatten the stitches. (fig. C)
10. Separate the chain threads and thread them through a
h an d s e w in g nee d le an d pull t h e m t o t h e f a b ri c b a c k s i d e .
If necessary, tie a knot to secure the threads. (fig. D)
Note: If the fabric does not pull completely flat under the
s t it c h es , g uid e t h e f ab ric f old t o t h e lef t s o t h at t h e
loops h ang s lig h t ly of f t h e f old as t h ey are b eing
s t it c h ed .
