Setting up
Place the charger in a horizontal
position on a solid surface.
The location must be sufficiently
stable if the charger is placed on
shelves, for example.
Bear in mind the weight of the
charger.
Do not cover the charger!
Set up the charger so that a
clearance of at least 15 cm is free
all around it for ventilation. Protect
the charger from moisture and
humidity.
The charger may only be connected
to a mains whose voltage is the
same as that given on the charger's
rating plate (9). Set the operating
mode selector switch (8) to 0 (OFF)
before connecting the charger to
the mains.
Putting into operation
Observe safety conditions!
Charge batteries Important!
Observe the battery manu-
facturer's instructions before
starting the charging process!
Before every charging operati-
on, turn the rotary controller (2)
anticlockwise as far as it will
go and read off the charging
current on the ammeter (4). If
this current is greater than 5 A,
switch off the charger immedi-
ately Have the charger che-
cked by Bosch customer ser-
vice.
Safety instructions
• Only charge batteries with a 12 V
nominal voltage.
• Use only fault-free batteries.
• Connect only checked batteries
in parallel for charging.
• Do not charge maintenance-free
batteries together with standard
batteries.
• In the case of standard batteries,
screw off cell plugs before char-
ging.
8
• Wear protective goggles.
• If acid splashes onto your skin or
clothing, rinse it off immediately
with a lot of water.
• Charge batteries only in well-
ventilated rooms. There is a risk
of explosion caused by the forma-
tion of electrolytic gases.
• Avoid fire, naked flames and
spark formation.
Important:
There is an acute risk of
explosion if there is a strong
smell of gas.
Do not switch off the unit.
Do not remove the charging
clips.
Immediately
ventilate
room
thoroughly.
Avoid fire, naked flames and
spark formation.
Turn the rotary controller (2)
anticlockwise as far as it will
go.
Switch off the charger.
Have the battery checked by
Bosch customer service.
• The maximum recommended
charging capacity is 400 Ah.
Normal charging
In this mode, the charging voltage
is switched off for safety reasons
as soon as a charging clip is
removed.
First set the operating mode
selector switch (8) to the 0 (OFF)
position.
Connect the charging clips to the
correct poles of the battery (red
clip to positive pole, blue clip to
negative pole).
Set the rotary latching switch for
battery type selection (1) to the
right battery type. Top setting:
Standard batteries, charging
voltage. 14.4V
Bottom setting: Maintenance-free
batteries, charging voltage 13.8 V
Turn the rotary controller (2)
anticlockwise as far as it will go
(lowest charging current).
Set the operating mode selector
switch (8) to 12 V (Normal
charging)
Set the charging current at the
rotary controller (2) to the value
stated by the battery manufacturer.
The maximum charging current is
determined by the value of the
nominal battery capacity (Ah)
and a time constant (h).
Examples:
With a 12 Ah battery there is a
maximum charging current of 12 A,
and with an 18 Ah battery there
is a maximum charging current of
18A.
Important: When setting the
current, it is essential to follow
the battery manufacturer's
instuctions!
Constantly monitor the charging
the
current on the ammeter (4).
If the green LED (5) lights up,
the battery is charged to at least
60% of its nominal capacity and is
capable of being started.
For continued charging, trickle
charging or floating operation
of the battery, set the rotary
latching switch (1) for selec-
ting the battery type to the
position for maintenance-free
batteries
(bottom).
After the charging operation has
ended, set the operating mode
selector switch (8) to 0 (OFF) and
remove the charging clips from the
battery.
Charging exhausted batteries
Charge only one battery in this
mode. Batteries which indicate a
voltage below 7.5 V are exhausted
and can be charged in this mode.
First set the operating mode selec-
tor switch (8) to the 0 (OFF) setting.
Turn the rotary controller (2) anticlo-
ckwise as far as it will go (lowest
charging current). Connect the
charging clips to the correct poles
of the battery. Securely connect the
red clip to the positive pole and the
blue clip to the negative pole. Set
the operating mode selector switch (8)
to the (back-up mode)
Important:
Voltage is present at the char-
ging clips.
