    Section 1 — System Overview The actual location of and type of equipment installed in early model Main panels varies, depending on date of manufacture. Some earlier designs used Hard Disk drives with the Real Time (RT) processor, and some used Disk on Chip hardware.

    Section 1 — System Overview The Local Aux panel is generally installed directly above the left side of the Main panel so the Source Select buttons are aligned, though it can be mounted in any convenient location. If the Emergency Bypass option is installed, a redundant power supply for the Local Aux panel is available to ensure bypass operation even if the Main panel loses power.

    Section 1 — System Overview 1-M/E Main Panel A 1-M/E Main panel is intended to act as an accessory control surface for a 4-M/E or 2-M/E Kalypso system, not as the primary system control point. A 1-M/E Main panel can be used for pre- or post-production, or be used during live production to permit another operator to assist the TD.

Three 24-Crosspoint and two 32-Crosspoint Remote Aux panels are available for 4-M/E and 2-M/E systems. Any combination of these aux panels may be used in a Kalypso system.

    System Components Kalypso Classic Video Processor Frame 4-M/E Kalypso Classic Video Processor Frame The Kalypso Classic Video Processor frame houses most of the system elec- tronics, with slots in the front and rear that hold individual modules. The front bay holds system control, video routing, and signal processing mod- ules.

Because only two M/Es are standard (M/E 1 and PGM PST), only two M/E modules and two crosspoint modules are provided (Figure 33).

    Section Control Panels Introduction A basic Kalypso system is equipped with a Main panel, a Local Aux panel, a Menu panel, and removable media drives. These separate control panel components make up a Kalypso control surface. Interactions occur between the components of the control surface. For example, changing controls on the Main panel can change the status of soft buttons on the Menu panel, and vice versa.

    Section 2 — Control Panels On some single press buttons, pressing the button again while the action is being performed (the button will be lit) halts the action. The Auto Trans button is an example of a single press button that can be halted. Alternate Action Some system functions have two states, and are turned on and off by a single alternate action button.

A hold down latch param- eter exists in user configuration that permits single handed operation by extending the hold down behavior for a user-specified period of time after the button is released. Hold down buttons that do not light during normal use will go high tally when a hold down is active.

Tallys will be off for buttons whose functions are off or not available. If a disabled button is pressed a warning notification occurs (audible beep and/or message on the Menu panel).

    Introduction • Keypad delegation. Besides being used to recall effects, the E-MEM and Master E-MEM keypads are also used to enter numeric values. Pressing a numeric prefix button delegates the keypad to numeric entry for that function. The numeric prefix buttons and controlled numeric functions are listed in Table Table 4.

    Section 2 — Control Panels Source Select Modifier Buttons A group of source select modifier buttons are located below each M/E’s Status display. These buttons affect the source selection buttons in that M/E. Holding down a source select modifier button changes what source will be selected when an M/E source button is pressed.
