® Comdial strives to design the features in our communications systems to be fully interactive with one another. However, this is not always possible, as the combinations of accessories and features are too varied and extensive to insure total feature compatibility. Accordingly, some features identified in this publication will not operate if some other feature is activated.

FX Series system’s CTI capability include those listed below. The FX Series CTI platform includes these applications as an integral part of the system. To activate an application, an installing agent merely purchases the application from Comdial and then receives a user number that enables the software key to unlock the feature.
Reviewing The Hardware Understanding The FX System CTI Server The FX Series system cabinet houses two distinct system parts—the computer portion and the telephony portion. Separate documentation is available to support the telephony portion; therefore, this publication does not discuss the telephony portion of the FX Series system.

GCA40–216 Understanding The Software Key The software key that Comdial ships with the FX Series system serves several functions. Not only does it control the availability of the application software, it also controls the availability of the telephone system operating software at initial setup.
Comdial designers have created an equipment cabinet for the FX Series system that matches the cabinets of modern office equipment. Therefore it is not necessary for installers to locate the FX Series cabinet in a special equipment room. Available mounting options include an equipment shelf that installers can attach to a wall and set the cabinet upon, or optional casters that installers can attach to the bottom of the cabinet.
Connecting the computer components consists of making the proper cable connections. The following illustrations show those various cable connections. Connecting The External Components To operate the FX Series system computer, connect a keyboard, a video monitor, and a computer mouse. Keyboard Cable Video Monitor...
GCA40–216 General Description Connecting The Internal Components To ensure proper operation of the FX Series system computer and all of its CTI applications, installers must place the application-specific circuit boards in specific motherboard slot locations. GCA40–216 Connecting The Application Cables The computer/telephony interface (CTI) applications that provide the FX Series system with much of its effectiveness require cable connections between the computer portion and the telephony portion of the system. The illustration shown below detail those cable connections.
To provide protection against surges and spikes that may appear on the AC line to the computer portion of the FX Series system, install a plug-in power line surge protector between the AC power cord of the installed equipment and the AC outlet. Often, you can use one multi-outlet surge protector for both the telephony and computer portions of the FX Series system.
