XE1401SK - HARDWARE DESCRIPTION
This chapter describes the XE1401SK hardware building blocks.
The Bluetooth™ baseband controller itself is not described in this section. Please refer to the XE1401 datasheet on
the enclosed CD-ROM for further details.
5.1
BLOCKS OVERVIEW
The XE1401SK is composed of two boards: The XE1401SK motherboard and the radio board. The XE1401SK
motherboard carries all necessary components for the XE1401 baseband controller, the XE3006 CODEC, power
management and RS232/USB ports.
The radio board includes a Bluetooth™ radio chip, all required external components to operate it, a flex film
antenna and a SMA connector for an external antenna. Two radio types are supported by the XE1401: Skyworks
CX72303 (formerly Conexant) and Silicon Wave SiW1502.

On the left side the XE1401SK is populated with the IAR radio module based on the Skyworks radio chip. The
picture on the right shows the XE1401SK with the Silicon Wave radio evaluation module.
