XE3006 CODEC

The XE3006 (U2) is an ultra low power CODEC. The balanced speaker output signals from the CODEC are filtered
by an onboard low-pass filter to match with the included headset. For best performance and voice quality, the filter
must be adapted to match with the used speaker.
The microphone port is configured to provide a 1.1V bias voltage required by the enclosed headset microphone. If
another microphone is used, requiring a higher bias voltage, please refer to the XE3005/6 datasheet.
The CODEC XE3006 is powered at 1.8V supplied by the XE1401 on chip regulator.
The CODEC XE3006 is automatically initialized during start up by the XE1401. For details see the Software Demo
User's Guide and the XE3005/6 datasheet on the enclosed CD-ROM.
It is possible to disable the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) of the XE3006 and hence to disconnect the CODEC
from the XE1401 by removing JP8 (see 5.3 Motherboard Jumper Settings). If the 0Ω resistors R29 to R34 are
removed, the XE1401 serial audio interface (PCM) is disconnected from the on board CODEC and can be directly
accessed on JP2.
The SPI as well as the PCM interface of the XE1401 baseband controller is now available to interface to any other
peripheral device.
The pins for the XE3006 Sandman™ function are accessible via TP5. For details see the XE3005/6 datasheet on
the enclosed CD-ROM.
