5.4.1
IAR Systems Radio Board – Overview
The IAR Systems radio board is based on the Skyworks radio chip CX72303. For a detailed description of the radio
device please refer to the enclosed radio specification from Skyworks.
A 15pF 0603 capacitor is used to route the antenna signal to the onboard flex-film antenna or to the SMA
connector. The SMA connector can be used to connect to any RF test equipment or to test your own antenna
design.

Note! The Skyworks radio evaluation board header on the XE1401SK motherboard is fully pin compatible with the
standard Conexant and Skyworks Radio Evaluation modules. These modules can be directly plugged in. For
details about the Skyworks Radio Evaluation modules please contact Skyworks (http://www.skyworksinc.com).
5.4.2
Flag Designed Flexible Laminate Antenna
The included antenna is a low-cost flex-film antenna from Intenna. This type of antenna is ideal to be placed inside
the mechanics of a Bluetooth™ device. It can be bent and follow the structure of the mechanics. However, to get
best performance from the antenna, it has to be matched with the surrounding hardware.
The antenna is constructed with a flexible laminate on a small plastic carrier. It is perfect for smaller wireless
devices and designed for automated production. The antenna only requires a small area on the PCB even though
the area of the antenna is large.
