Contents of this chapter

This chapter contains the start-up procedure of a brake unit.
WARNING! Only qualified electricians are allowed to perform the work described
in this chapter. Obey all safety instructions in Safety instructions for ACS880
multidrive cabinets and modules (3AUA0000102301 [English]. If you ignore the
safety instructions, physical injury or death, or damage to the equipment can occur.
Note: Some brake resistors are coated with oil film for protection. The protective oil will
burn off when the brake resistor is used for the first time. Make sure that the airflow is
sufficient.

Preliminary actions

WARNING! Make sure that the disconnector of the supply transformer is locked to open position,
ie, no voltage is, or can be, connected to the drive inadvertently. Check also by measuring that
there is no voltage connected.
Check that the mechanical and electrical installation of the
brake chopper has been inspected and is OK.
Check that the insulation of the resistor circuit has been
measured and is OK.
