Notes on waterproofness and
dustproofness
Before using the product, thoroughly read "Notes on
waterproofness and dustproofness" to ensure correct use.
Failure to follow the contents described in these sections may
cause intrusion of water, sand or other foreign material,
resulting in overheating, ignition, electric shock, injury or a fault.
■ Waterproofness and dustproofness
The FJL21 provides waterproofness of IPX5

dustproofness of IP5X with firmly closing the external
connection terminal cover and steadily installing the battery
cover (based on in-house testing).
Specifically, you can make calls holding the product with wet
hands in the rain (less than 20 mm per hour) without
umbrella, as well as use the product in a place with water
such as a bathroom or kitchen.
*1 Equivalent to IPX5
IPX5 equivalent means that the product will maintain its operability as a phone
even if it is sprayed with water from a 6.3 mm diameter nozzle at a distance of
about 3 meters for more than 3 minutes at a rate of about 12.5 liters per minute
from any direction.
*2 Equivalent to IPX8
It means that the product will maintain its operability as a phone with no water
getting inside the main unit when the main unit is gently submerged in a tank of
still tap water at room temperature to a depth of 1.5 meter and left for about 30
minutes.
*3 Equivalent to IP5X
IP5X equivalent means protection level that the product will securely maintain
its operability as a phone even after it has been placed in an apparatus with grit
and dust of diameters of 75 μm or less and shaken for 8 hours.
◎ However, proper operation of the product in every possible condition during
actual use is not guaranteed. Malfunctions determined to be caused by
mishandling by the customer are not covered by the warranty.
■ Important items to remember before use
• Do not place the product directly on sand at a beach, etc.
Sand or other small particles might get inside the earpiece,
microphone or speaker/stereo earphone terminal, causing
the volume to drop. If sand gets inside the FJL21 main
unit, it might cause overheating or a fault.
• Close the external connection terminal cover firmly, and
attach the battery cover securely making sure that there
are not any spaces between them and the main unit.

• Waterproofness is only effective when the covers are
securely closed.
• Just a small particle (a hair, a grain of sand, etc.) between
the FJL21 main unit and external connection terminal
cover or battery cover can cause water leak.
• Do not open/close the external connection terminal cover
or battery cover if the main unit or your hands are wet.
• Do not use the product when the stereo earphone terminal
is wet or attached with sand or dust.
• Do not use the FJL21 underwater (including key
operations).
• Do not leave the product in a humid place such as a
bathroom or kitchen for an extended period of time. The
FJL21 is not moistureproof.
• The FJL21 main unit is waterproof only against fresh
water/tap water (5℃-35℃). Do not splash with or soak
into the following liquid. Do not adhere sand or mud to the
product.
Ex : soap water, detergent water, water with bath salts,
sea water, pool water, hot spring water, boiled water,
chemical product or sweat.
