How to unmount and turn off the Drive
never turn off a hard drive or disconnect any cables while it is mounted to a
computer's operating system. You may lose data or damage the drive.
Windows users
1. In the Windows Taskbar click the Safely Remove icon (the icon
with the green arrow). A pop-up message will appear with a list of
devices connected to your computer.
2. Select the Drive from the list. After a few seconds Windows will
display a message indicating it is safe to remove the device.
3. Click OK. You can then safely turn off the Drive.
Mac users
Drag the Drive's icon to the Trash. After the icon disappears from the
Desktop you can safely turn off and/or disconnect the Drive.
Whether you are using a Mac or a Pc...
if you turn off the Drive after you shut down your computer, you do not need to
unmount it. the Drive will unmount automatically during shutdown.
