Aastra Mobility Solutions
Reference Case - Educational Institutions
Celina Independent School District (ISD) achieves full mobility
coverage throughout all of its campus locations using the Aastra
SIP-DECT™ solution
The Celina ISD occupies 94 square miles in northwest Collin County TX, and
a small area in Denton County TX. The District is comprised of three rapidly
growing communities; Celina, Alla and Weston. Students are educated in four
main buildings located throughout the district: an elementary school; a grade
4-6 intermediate school; a grade 7-8 junior high school; and a grade 9-12 high
school with another high school on the way. In addition, the district has one
main administration building, and an athletic complex housing the football
field and home to the Celina Bobcats football team!
With over 10% of its near 200 faculty members moving about the campus
throughout the day, the need to remain in touch with each other, and the out-
side community, in case of operational or security issues had grown to become
a critical element of Celina's overall voice communications requirements.
Up until now, Celina had being using cellular phones to satisfy their mobility
needs. This was not the ideal situation as cellular coverage could be spotty at
times in the district, and did not work well in some of the buildings. In order to
correct the situation, they started looking for a wireless technology that would
not only provide coverage throughout all of its campus facilities, but integrate
seamlessly with their recently installed VoIP telephone system.
After reviewing various wireless technologies, and having consulted a number
of potential vendors, Celina opted for the Aastra SIP-DECT™ solution. "We had
already installed a number of Aastra's SIP Telephones on our Asterisk-based IP
system" said Bill Harris, Director of Technology at Celina. "They are performing
very well, which made our decision to add Aastra's SIP-DECT solution a very
easy and natural one. "
