Disconnect and ground the spark plug wire
against the engine.
2.
Remove the belt cover from the left side of
the tiller by removing the two hex washer
screws and the lock nut and washer. See
Figure 5-1.

Remove the idler pulley bolt and move the
belt from under the idler pulley keeper. See
Figure 5-2.

1. Foreign object lodged in tines
2. Tine clevis pin(s) missing
3. Pulley and idler not in correct adjustment
4. Control cable not adjusted properly
5. Belt worn and/or stretched

Using a 1⁄2" wrench, remove the hex screw
securing the belt keeper to the engine. See
Figure 5-3.

Remove the belt.

To install the new belt, follow the instructions
in reverse order and refer to Figure 5-4. Be sure
to place the wider side of the belt away from
the engine and transmission pulleys.

NOTE:
Upon reassembly, make certain that
the idler pulley keeper is as shown in Figure
5-2. Take note of the notch on the bottom
of the keeper and the alignment when
reassembling with the replacement belt.
Remedy
1. Dislodge foreign object
2. Replace tine clevis pin(s)
3. Take tiller to authorized service dealer
4. Adjust control cable
5. Replace belt
1. Forward rotation should only be used on soil that has
already been tilled, not on virgin soil.
