7.4 START THE ASCEnT/DESCEnT (AS/
DS) CALCuLATOR
The Traileader is equipped with an auto
ascent/descent calculator that keeps
track of your total vertical distance
ascended and descended. This feature
differs from the altitude difference
calculator in that it measures all vertical
travel, not just the vertical difference
between two points. Example: In the
course of a day hike, you ascend 500 ft.
to a small knoll and descend 1500 ft. into
a ravine. You then scale a steep 3000 ft.
incline to the summit. To end your hike,
you descend 2500 ft. back to the trail
head. Your total ascent is 3500 ft. and
your total descent is 4000 ft. Together,
they represent the total of vertical travel.
