PrOPerties Of YOur new cOffee grinDer

Due to the special lock of the bean hopper, the bean hopper can be removed even
when filled with beans. for this, hold the bean hopper, while turning the dial within
the bean hopper counter-clockwise. then lift the bean hopper upwards to remove it.
when unlocking from the grinder, the locking system will shut the base of the bean
hopper. thus you may transfer the beans in the hopper to a storage container safely.
to fill the beans back into your storage container, simply hold the base of the bean
hopper over the container and turn the bean hopper lock to the unlock position to
make the beans fall out.
for operation, the bean hopper is locked on the grind size collar. thus, conveniently
you may turn the grind size collar by turning the bean hopper. this way, fine adjust-
ment of the grind size is quite easy.
If your coffee needs an especially wide range of grind sizes, the »Design coffee
Grinder Advanced Plus« offers the exceptional feature to adjust the grinder accor-
dingly, see: ›Adjusting the upper Burr‹.

safetY cOncePt

to avoid injuries due to moving parts of the grinder, a safety interlock disables motor
operation, if the bean hopper has not been assembled and locked properly on the
grinder. In this case, the GrIND tIMe dial will not be illuminated, even with the
appliance prepared for operation.
to avoid damage to the motor, the appliance is equipped with a thermal safety cut
out that will prevent the motor from overheating. If the motor stops unexpectedly,
possibly the thermal safety cut out is active. In this case, simply wait for approx.
½ hour. then try again.

tO Pause Or cancel OPeratiOn

You can pause the grinder during operation for up to 10 seconds, allowing to col-
lapse or settle the coffee powder in the filter basket.
1. Press the stArt/cANcel button to start the grinding operation.
2. During grinding, press the stArt/cANcel button once to pause. the GrIND
tIMe dial will slowly flash while paused.
3. Press the stArt/cANcel button again within 10 seconds, while the GrIND
tIMe dial is still flashing, to resume grinding the remaining amount of coffee
beans.
You can cancel operation at any time during grinding. simply hold the stArt/cAN-
cel button pressed for 1 second.

Grinding manually allows you to have complete control over how much coffee is
dispensed.
1. Prepare the coffee Grinder for operation (see: ›Preparing the coffee Grinder for
operation‹).
2. Press and hold the stArt/cANcel button to grind for as long as you require.
3. release the stArt/cANcel button to stop grinding.
when pressing the stArt/cANcel button only shortly, the grinding
imPOrtant:
operation will be timer-controlled. the grinder will operate until the pre-selected
GrIND tIMe elapsed. However, if the GrIND tIMe dial is set to "0", nothing will
happen. see: ›operation‹.

energY saving functiOn

the »Design coffee Grinder Advanced Plus« features an energy saving function. this
function will automatically switch on after 5 minutes of being idle. However, you
should not leave the appliance unattended, while connected to the power supply.
with the energy saving function active, the GrIND tIMe dial will get dark. simply
turn the GrIND tIMe dial to switch on the appliance again.

aDJusting the uPPer Burr

In normal operation, you select the grind size via the grind size collar. However,
some types of coffee may require a wider grind size range to achieve an ideal
extraction/brew. A special feature of your »Design coffee Grinder Advanced Plus«
is the ability to extend this range via an adjustable upper burr. we recommend
making only one adjustment at a time.
note:
Always try to get a sufficient adjustment via the grind size collar, before adjusting
the upper burr.
1. empty the bean hopper and grinder. for this, remove and empty the bean hop-
per and replace the bean hopper back on the grinder. let the grinder run empty
(see also: ›care and cleaning‹).
2. unplug the appliance.
3. remove the bean hopper from the coffee grinder.
4. Grasp the upper burr by the handle and turn the upper burr counter-clockwise
to unlock it. Pull the upper burr out.
