7 - WATER COIL

7.1 - Description

The water coil has aluminium fins which are expansion-bon-
ded to a 3/8" diameter copper tube.
Water inlet and outlet connections are threaded 1/2" gas. Air
purge valves are standard. The coil is integral with the drain
pan and coil access door to simplify removal for service.
Coils available are: 5 rows for two-pipe systems with change-
over or for use with electric heater: 6 rows with 5 rows cooling
and 1 row heating.
NOTE:
Each ULTRA has a label showing the position of the water
inlets and outlets on the coil.

Recommended coil water quality
At installation handover, and then periodically every year, it is
advised to analyse the water for bacteria (detection of ferro-
bacterias, H2S producing and sulphate reducing bacteria) and
chemicals (in order to avoid problems due to corrosion and
scaling).
The water circuit must include all the necessary elements for
the treatment of the water: filters, additives, intermediate
exchangers, purges, drains, isolating valves, etc., according to
the analysis results.
The results must be in accordance with the values shown
below:
• Total hardness in French degrees:10 < TH < 15
• Chloride [CL

7.2 - Removing the water coil

WARNING:
Disconnect the power supply to the ULTRA before carrying
out any work on the unit.
a) Close the isolating valves on the manifolds.
b) Unscrew the 1/2" gas connections to disconnect the
flexible water pipes.
c) Remove the two-port or three-port water flow control
valve bodies. Depending how the ULTRA is configured, the
coupling on a three-port valve may be fitted with a heat-
ing/cooling changeover switch. If so, do not remove it.
d) Disconnect the flexible condensate drain pipe which is
held in place by a collar (the collar is not supplied by
Carrier).
e) Remove the 4 hexagon head screws (8 mm AF) and slide
out the coil and drain pan assembly.
f) Reverse the removal procedure described above to install
the replacement coil and drain pan assembly. Ensure that
all joints are made correctly and are leaktight.
WARNING:
Bleed all air from the coil when it is refilled.
