5. Push on the air filter, while in the bag, to remove the
air filter oil that is not necessary. Remove the air
filter from the bag.
6. Install the air filter.
To do the maintenance on the
attachment
WARNING: Remove the spark plug before
you do the maintenance on the attachment.
To adjust the chain tension
WARNING: Put on the gloves before you
adjust the chain tension. The chain is sharp
and can cause injuries to you.
Note: The chain extends during the operation, specially
when you operate for the first 15 minutes. You must
examine and adjust the chain tension frequently after
you use or refuel the product.
1. Hold the lower end of the chain with a support.
2. Make sure that there are no kinks on the guide bar.
3. Loosen the bar nut (A), and then tighten it with your
fingers.(Fig. 59 )
4. Move the adjustment screw (B) clockwise until the
chain touches the bottom of the guide bar rail. And
move the adjustment screw clockwise 1/4 turn.
5. Move the chain around the guide bar to make sure
that all drive links stay in the bar groove.
6. Lift the top of the guide bar, and tighten the bar nut
with the bar tool.
7. Make sure that you can move the chain around the
guide bar with the screwdriver end of the bar tool.
8. Loosen the bar nut lightly, and loosen the adjustment
screw counterclockwise 1/4 turn if you cannot move
the chain. Tighten the bar nut.
9. Tighten the adjustment screw clockwise 1/4 turn if
the chain stays loose and hangs below the guide
bar.
To replace the chain
WARNING: When the chain becomes worn
or damaged, replace it with the low kickback
chain.
1. Disconnect the spark plug.
2. Remove the bar nuts and the clutch cover.
3. Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise by
hand until the adjustment pin is located between the
two indicator marks on the clutch cover.

4. Move the guide bar behind the sprocket until the
guide bar stops against the sprocket. Remove the
chain.
5. Hold the new chain with the drive links .(Fig. 60 )
6. Put the new chain above and behind the clutch
drum. Set the drive links in the clutch drum sprocket.
7. Keep the bottom of the drive links between the teeth
of the sprocket in the nose of the guide bar.
8. Set the drive links into the bar groove.
9. Pull the guide bar forward until the new chain sets in
the bar groove.
10. Install the clutch cover.
11. Set the adjustment pin in the lower hole of the guide
bar.
12. Install the bar nuts and tighten them with your hand.
13. Adjust the chain tension
on page 18 and tighten fully the bar nuts.
To sharpen the chain
WARNING: Put on the gloves before you
sharpen the chain. Sharpen the chain from
inner side of the cutter to the outer side.
WARNING: Sharpen on the forward stroke
only. Use 2 or 3 strokes for each cutting
edge. Sharpen sufficiently to remove
damage to the cutting edges, which include
the side plates and the top plates of the
cutters. Keep all cutters at the same length.
Sharpen the chain when:
The wood pieces decrease.
The saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
You must push the saw through branches with force.
1. Disconnect the spark plug.
2. Adjust the chain tension if it is necessary
the chain tension on page 18 .
3. Set the file holder (A) to 90°.(Fig. 61 )Make sure that
the file holder stays on the top edges of the cutter
(B) and the depth gauge (C).
Note: The chain has left and right cutters.
4. Align the 30° file holder marks (A) with the guide bar
and to the center of the chain.(Fig. 62 )
5. Sharpen the cutters (B) at one side.(Fig. 63 ) Turn
the chain around to sharpen the cutters at the other
side.
6. Examine the depth gauges and move them down.
Put the depth gauge tool on the cutters.
7. Make the depth gauge level to the top of the depth
gauge tool with the flat file.
