SECTION Ill
NORMAL PROCEDURES
The procedures, specific information, and necessary precautions in this
section have been determined by engineering computations and flight testing
of the airplane. The general handling techniques have been written with the
cooperation of Beech Aircraft Corporation pilots, and may be followed with
confidence in forming your own procedures.
During all phases of engine and flight operation, to avoid excessive cylinder
pressures, observe the maximum recommended rpm and manifold pressure
values. Use your Horsepower Setting Charts to arrive at combinations of rpm,
manifold pressure, and fuel flow settings for cruising flight. Note that the
manifold pressure required to obtain a given horsepower will vary with
outside air temperature. When increasing power, set rpm first, then manifold
pressure. Make power reductions with manifold pressure first, then rpm.
STARTING
Refer to the Starting Check List in Section II. Make sure that the area around
the propeller is clear and free from loose objects. Avoid operating the engine
on loose gravel or sand.
Each cranking period should be limited to 30 seconds. Allow the starter to
cool for 3 to 5 minutes between cranking periods.
After the engine
is
started, check for oil pressure indication. If no pressure is
shown
in
30 seconds (60 seconds in cold weather), stop the engine and
investigate.
In high ambient air temperatures and during hot engine starts, if there is
evidence of vapor in the fuel system (fluctuating fuel flow), operate the
auxiliary fuel pump on LO until the fuel flow is stable and the engine
operates smoothly with the auxiliary pump off.
TAXIING
NEVER TAXI WITH A FLAT SHOCK STRUT; damage to the airplane can
occur during both ground operation and landing gear retraction.
