When Using Your Computer Observe the following safe-handling guidelines to prevent damage to your computer: • When setting up the computer for work, place it on a level surface. • When traveling, do not check the computer as baggage. Connecting the Dell™ D/Bay To use an optical drive or a floppy drive, connect the Dell D/Bay to the computer: Insert the device into the bay, push the device until you feel a click, and then push the device latch release in so that it is flush with the bay.

Slide the battery into the bay until the latch release clicks. Running the Dell Diagnostics The Dell Diagnostics is located on a hidden Diagnostic utility partition on your hard drive. NOTE: If your computer cannot display a screen image, connect an external monitor and press to switch the video image to the monitor.

• If you receive a message stating that no Diagnostics utility partition has been found, follow the instructions on the screen to run the Dell Diagnostics from your Drivers and Utilities CD. If the Pre-boot System Assessment completes successfully, you receive the message Booting Dell Diagnostic Utility Partition.

Configuration Displays your hardware configuration for the selected device. The Dell Diagnostics obtains your configuration information for all devices from the system setup program, memory, and various internal tests and displays the information in the device list in the left pane of the screen.
