Testing For Electrical Shorts And Continuity

1.
Using an ohmmeter or continuity tester, test for a short between the
center conductor and the shield.
If resistance reading
ohmmeter
indicates:
there is no short
that a short exists
2.
Connect a temporary short between the center conductor and the
shield at one end of the cable.
3.
At the other end of the cable, use an ohmmeter or continuity tester
to test for electrical continuity.
If resistance reading
indicates:
there is no short
that a short exists
Important:
Replace the trunk-cable section if problems persist
with the cable after completing
these tests.
Then:
continue to step 2
inspect the ends of the cable for shorted
circuits— if you are unable to locate a short,
replace the trunk-cable section
