Engine Running Behavior

If engine running behavior is
unsatisfactory even though the air filter
is clean and the carburetor is properly
adjusted, the cause may be the muffler.
Have the muffler checked for
contamination (carbonization) by your
servicing dealer.
STIHL recommends that you have
servicing and repair work carried out
exclusively by an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer.

Lubricating the Gearbox

Check grease level after every 25 hours
of operation and re-lubricate if
necessary.
Remove the screw plug (1).

If no grease can be seen on the
N
inside of the screw plug (1): Screw
the tube (2) of STIHL gear lubricant
(special accessory) into the filler
hole.
Squeeze no more than 5 g (1/5 oz)
N
grease into the gearbox.
NOTICE
Do not completely fill the gearbox with
grease.
Unscrew the tube (2).
N
Insert the screw plug (1) and tighten
N
it down firmly.

Lubricating the Flexible Shaft

Check the film of grease regularly –
N
about every 25 hours of operation.

Unscrew the screw (1) and remove
N
it with the washer (2).
Pull out the flexible shaft (3).
N

Pull the flexible shaft (2) out of the
N
protective tube (3).
Mark the installed position of the
N
flexible tube.
Coat the shaft uniformly with STIHL
N
multipurpose grease (special
accessory). Do not apply too much
grease.
NOTICE
If the drive shaft has turned blue, install
a new one.
