Safe Driving
If the parking brake is released and
the brake w arning lamp in the in
strum ent cluster comes on, the
brake fluid level in the reservoir is
too low.
A leak or brake pad wear may cause
a shortage o f brake fluid in the
reservoir.
Have brake system checked in a
MERCEDES-BENZ service station
as soon as possible.
Install only brake pads recom m end
ed by us. If other than recom m end
ed brake pads are installed, the
braking properties o f the vehicle
can be affected to an extent that
the safety is substantially impaired.
B rake Pad W e a r In d icato r Lam p
The brake pad wear indicator lamp
in the instrum ent cluster comes on
when the key in the steering lock is
turned to driving position " 2 " and it
must go out when the engine is
running. If the indicator lamp lights
up during braking or driving, this
shows th a t the fro n t wheel brake
pads are w orn down.
Have brake system checked in a
MERCEDES-BENZ service station
as soon as possible.
Brake Fluid
During the course of the operation
of the vehicle, the boiling point of
the brake flu id is continuously
being reduced through the absorp
tion of m oisture from the atm os
phere. Under extrem ely hard oper
ating conditions, this m oisture
co nte nt can lead to the form ation
o f vapor in the system thus reduc
ing the system's efficiency. The
brake fluid m ust therefore be
replaced annually, preferably in the
spring. It is recommended to use
only brake fluid approved by
MERCEDES-BENZ.
Your MERCEDES-BENZ dealer w ill
provide you w ith additional in fo r
mation.
C harge In d ic ato r Lamp
Should the charge indicator lamp
fail to come on prior to starting
when the ignition key is in posi
tion "
" or should it fail to go out
2
after starting or during operation,
this indicates a fa ult w hich m ust be
repaired at a MERCEDES-BENZ
service station as soon as possible.
Oil Pressure Gauge
The oil pressure may drop at idle
speed to 0.5 bar/7.1 psi if the
engine is at operating tem perature.
This w ill not jeopardize its oper
ational reliability. Pressure m ust,
however, rise im m ediately upon
acceleration.
The oil pressure gauge does not
provide any inform ation concern
ing the oil level in the engine.
C oolant T e m p e ra tu re Gauge
Due to the pressurized cooling
system, the coolant only starts
boiling at a tem perature o f approx.
125° C/257° F w ith an antifreeze-
blended coolant fill protecting
dow n to —30° C / —22° F (see
also "Fuels, Coolants, Lubricants,
etc.").
During severe operating conditions
and stop-and-go city tra ffic the
coolant tem perature m ust not rise
above the red marking.
