GENERAL

Document Purpose

This document describes the Westell 28MA202 Series of Uni­
versal Mounting Assemblies. Models covered in this document
are listed in Table 1, and a typical model is shown in Figure 1.
- NOTE -
Hereafter, all models may be commonly referred to as the
"28MA202" or "the mounting." Specific model numbers will be
used where differences apply.

Document Status

Whenever this practice is updated, the reason will be stated in
this Paragraph. This practice replaces practice 030-101427 for
the models shown in Table 1. This practice reflects the Issue C
equipment, which provides a #6 ground lug instead of the pre­
vious ground screw terminal. Revision B updates Table 1, and
Paragraphs 3.3 and 3.4.2. Revision C updates Figure 4 and
Paragraphs 3.1 and 3.3.2.

Product Purpose and Description

The 28MA202 is a compact mounting that houses one 400-type
plug-in module or up to two half-width (200 MECHAN­
ICSr-type) plug-in modules. These plug-in modules may be any
of the following types of units.
S
T1 Network Interface Units (NIUs)
S
Digital Data System Network Interface Units (DDS-NIUs)
S
HDSL Remote units
S
Any UL-recognized NEBS-compliant plug-in units that
meet the wiring plan of the 28MA202

To maintain the UL Listing of these mountings, only UL recog­
nized modules are to be used.
The universal mounting offers switchable RJ48C/RJ48S cus­
tomer jacks, and offers security features to help prevent
unauthorized access to the plug-in modules and the Facili­
ty/Telco wiring area. Modules installed in the mounting can be
either span or locally powered (28MA202 models that are
equipped with a power supply for local power applications con­
tain a "P" in the model number [see Table 1]).

Product Mounting

The 28MA202 is typically mounted to a wall or on an equipment
backboard at the customer premises.
