  • Page 24 SEAT, SEAT BELT, AND ROLLOVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE (ROPS) Adjusting the Tractor Seat Your New Holland tractor is equipped with an adjustable suspension seat. To move the seat fore and aft, raise the release lever, 1. Because the seat is on an inclined base, more effort is required to move the seat rearward than forward.
  • Page 25 Overturning a tractor without a ROPS installed can result in serious injury or death. The Rollover Protective Structure and seat belts are available from your New Holland Dealer. 19984233 Additionally, the safety offered by the ROPS and seat belt is minimized if your seat belt is not buckled.
  • Page 26 SECTION 2 - OPERATION Foldable ROPS A foldable Rollover Protective Structure is available factory installed on the TC21D and TC24D. Operate with the ROPS in the “up” position whenever possible. Use the ROPS in the “folded” position only when absolutely necessary.

Fuel Gauge—Indicates the amount of diesel fuel when the key switch is turned to the “HEAT” remaining in the tank.
  • Page 28 SECTION 2 - OPERATION 10. Rear PTO Speed—Determined by the position of the needle on the tachometer. The tachometer is marked to indicate 540 PTO RPM. Engine RPM should remain close to this mark while using the rear PTO; running the engine faster than this results in a dangerous overspeed condition.
  • Page 29 SECTION 2 - OPERATION STARTING THE ENGINE The key switch, 1, allows activation of the starter motor and fuel delivery only when: SBA390197280 1. The rear PTO, 2, and Mid PTO, 3, (if equipped) are in the “OFF” position. 2. The range lever, 4, is in the “NEUTRAL” position. 3.

  • Page 33 SECTION 2 - OPERATION BRAKE CONTROLS Brake Pedals The right brake pedal controls the braking action of the right rear wheel. The left brake pedal controls the left rear wheel brake. Depress both pedals simultaneously to stop the tractor. To assist in making sharp turns at slow speed, depress the right or left brake pedal as required.
  • Page 34 SECTION 2 - OPERATION FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE The front-wheel drive option is controlled by a lever, 1, located on the right-hand control pod. To engage front-wheel drive, depress the clutch pedal fully and push the lever fully forward. To disengage front-wheel drive, depress the clutch pedal and pull the lever fully rearward.
  • Page 35 SECTION 2 - OPERATION H.S.T. RANGE LEVER The range selector lever, 1, is located on the left-hand control pod. It has two speed ranges and one neutral position. • Page 40 SECTION 2 - OPERATION HOOD LATCH As viewed from the front of the tractor: 1. To raise the hood, move the latch release lever, 1, to the right and lift the hood to its fully raised position. A support link, 2, will automatically hold the hood in the fully raised position.
  • Page 41 SECTION 2 - OPERATION TRACTOR HYDRAULICS HYDRAULIC POWER LIFT (H.P.L.) The H.P.L. lever, 1, is located on the right-hand control pod. The lever controls the position of the two lift arms. To lower the lift arms, move the H.P.L. lever forward. To raise the lift arms, move the lever rearward.
  • Page 42 SECTION 2 - OPERATION SINGLE-LEVER POSITION ADJUSTMENTS LINKAGE ADJUSTMENTS The length of the position control rod is critical and careful adjustment must be observed for proper operation. If the control rod is adjusted too short, the control valve spool will remain in the raised position when the lift arms have reached their maximum height and the system relief valve will blow.
  • Page 43 SECTION 2 - OPERATION HYDRAULIC LIFT ROCKER The hydraulic lift rocker, 1, has two holes for attaching the upper link. Attach the link using the lower hole for light draft loads, such as mowers. Attach the link to the top hole for heavier draft loads, such as ground engaging equipment.
