WARNINGS FOR THE EVERYDAY USE
7
OF THE AUTOMATION
7.1 - "Obstacle detection" function
Era Star A is equipped with an "Obstacle detection" safety system that guarantees
the good condition of the shutter: it is activated when the shutter movement (ascent
or descent) is suddenly stopped by an obstacle (object, person, etc.) or a high level
of friction (formation of ice, material expansion, etc.). In these cases the control unit
immediately blocks the movement.
7.2 - Maximum continuous work cycle
In general, the motors of the "Era" range are designed for residential applications
and therefore for discontinuous use. They guarantee a maximum continuous operat-
ing time of 4 minutes; in the event of overheating (for example due to continuous and
prolonged operation), a "thermal cut-out" trips automatically to shut off power sup-
ply. Power is only restored when the temperature returns to within the normal range.
7.3 - "Limit switch auto-update" function
Caution! – This function is active only if the limit switch has been programmed with
the "Automatic mode" or "Semi-automatic mode" procedure. During daily use of the
automation, the impact of the shutter against the travel limit at the end of a manoeu-
vre is due to the "Limit switch auto-update function" which measures the parameters
of the two limit switch positions and updates the values previously memorised. The
aim of this function is to compensate over time any expansion or shrinkage of the
structure (due to wear or temperature variations) thus allowing the Ascent and
Descent movements to stop precisely at their respective travel limits.
What to do if
(troubleshooting guide)
q The electric phase is powered but the motor does not move:
If the thermal cut-out has tripped simply wait for the motor to cool. If this is not
the case check that the mains voltage corresponds to the data shown in the
specifications in this manual; to do this measure the voltage between the "com-
mon" wire and the one of the powered electric phase. Finally try to power the
opposite electric phase.
q The ascent command is given but the motor does not start:
If the shutter is already closed or almost closed the motor does not perform the
ascent manoeuvre. In this case the shutter must be moved down slightly and
then the ascent command can be given again.
q The system operates in the hold-to-run emergency mode:
– Check if the motor has been subjected to significant electric or mechanical
shock.
– Check that each part of the motor is in good condition.
– Perform the deletion procedure (paragraph 6.5) and programme the limit
switches again.
q Involuntary stop of the shutter movement (false obstacle):
Once the command has been given to the shutter, if its stops in a certain point for
no apparent reason (false obstacle) proceed as follows:
– adjust the obstacle detection sensitivity level (paragraph 6.4), increasing the
force.
If this is not sufficient,
– delete the limit switches (paragraph 6.5) and program them again using only
the procedure B - "Secondary procedure" (paragraph 6.2).
