Troubleshooting and Diagnostics

Introduction
This section describes the procedures you should follow to troubleshoot and repair the HP 82718A Expan
sion Pod. Read this whole section before attempting to repair a pod for the first time.
CAUTION
The HP82718A Expansion Pod contains components that are susceptible to ESD (electrostatic dis
charge). Be sure your work station is protected against ESD with a static mat and a static fan. Use a
grounded wrist strap and follow all precautionary procedures while troubleshooting and repairing the
HP 82718A. Failure to do so could result in damage to components in the unit.
The diagnostic ROM is the basic tool you will use for troubleshooting the HP 82718A. By executing the
test programs and test commands, you will be able to locate a faulty component with a good degree of
accuracy. Listings of the programs contained in the diagnostic ROM appear in appendix B.
If you are unable to determine which component is faulty by means ofthe diagnostic tests, you can use
other test procedures using available test equipment. Section seven contains schematics you will find help
ful for this purpose.
The modem PCA will be repaired to the assembly level only.
