CLEANING HINTS
EXTERIOR APPEARANCE
Washing
Your
Corvair
The
best
way
to preserve
the finish
is
to keep it cleon
.
Normally only frequent washings are
requ
i
red
to main
-
tai
n
its original beauty. Wash the cor
in
either
worm
or
cold
(never
hot) woter, not in
the
direct rays of the
sun,
and
not
while
the
sheet
metal surfaces are hot.
Neve
r
wipe
dirt
from dry painted surfaces because this may
scratc
h
the finish.
The
use
of
strong soaps and
chemica
l
detergents
should
be
avoided
and in any
event
clean-
ing agents
should
be promptly flushed
from
the
su
rfa
ce
and
not
allowed
to
dry or they
ma
y streak
the finish
.
Polishing and Waxing Your Corvair
Under
certain conditions
yo
u
may wish to wax or
polish
your
car to provide maximum protection
.
Calcium
chloride and other
salts,
road
oil
and
tar,
tree
sap,
chemicals from
factory chimneys and
other
foreign
mat-
ter ma
y
damage
an
y
known
automobile fin
ish
if
allowed
to
rema in
in contact with the
pa int
film.
Prompt
washing
may
not thoroughly
remove
these deposits and
,
particu-
larly in geographical
areas
where these exposure condi-
tions
are
severe,
properly
applied
polishes and
waxes
of
known
quality
will
provide
the
best protection
.

waxes
which

proven
of
real

lu
e
in maintaining
a
good paint finish
.
Protection of Exterior Bright Metal Parts
All bright metal parts of the
ca
r
should
be regularl
y
cleaned
and
protected against the same
substances
harmful to the painted
surfaces
.
Normally,
wash
ing
with
water
is all that is required.
However,
G
.
M. Chrome
Polish
may be used
on
CHROME or STAINLESS
STEEl
trim
if
necessary. Use special
care
with ALUMINUM
trim
.
Never
use
a
uto
or chrome
polish,
steam or any
ca
usti
c
soap to
clean aluminum.
Wash only
wi
th
lukewarm
water
,
and
if
necessary,
a mild
soap.
Ri
nse
well and dry
thoro
ughly.
It is recommended that
all
bright metal ports of your
Corvair,
after be ing thoroughl
y
cleaned,
be
given a
coating
of wa
x
and rubbed
to a
high
polish
.
This
will
serve to keep corrosive
agents
away from
these
surfaces,
and
should
be repeated as
often
as
required
.
