Fine tuning Shimano geared hubs
To fine tune the hub gears, first put them in the 4th
gear. Turn the pedals backwards a few times. Check if
the 2 yellow indicator bars at the bottom of the rear
cassette are aligned.
Adjust the cable tension by turning the cable
adjustment screw attached to the grip shifter until the
desired result is achieved.
Gates beltdrive
The Urban R1 has been equipped with a belt drive. The
belt drive is surprisingly silent and almost maintenance
free.
Belt drives do not need lubrication, which makes it a
lot cleaner than regular chain drive. For this reason the
bike is not equipped with a chaincase. You can clean the
belt with plain water.

Belt tension
Proper belt tension is key to optimal performance.
If the belt is too tight, it can cause drag and damage
the hub. If the belt is too loose, the belt can skip teeth
and slip. If you notice either one of those two, the belt
tension should be improved. Contact your dealer.
Replacing the belt
Under normal circumstances the belt will last a lot
longer than regular chains. However, eventually also a
belt will wear. If the sprocket is showing signs of wear
or if tooth are missing on the belt it could be a sign that
the belt is ready for replacement. This will be carefully
observed by your dealer during maintenance checks.

General components of the electric bicycle
It is important to properly align the belt. If the
alignment is not perfect, the belt can wear
more quickly and cause noise. The belt can
not be pried or pushed of the chainwheel like
regular chains. Only let an accredited dealer
service your belt drive.
