4.4.2 Unloading a Cassette (Manual Operation)
If
a power outage occurs while a cassette is loaded or the automatic removal procedure previously explained
fails, you may want to manually unload a cassette from the Python drive. The following steps outline the
manual cassette unloading and removal procedure.
NOTE: This procedure is basically the same for all three Python DDS-DC form factors---only
the physical housings are different.
1.
Disconnect power to the computer; then disconnect the unit from the computer. That is, remove the
SCSI connections to the host computer.
2.
Remove the power connections. For internal models, disconnect the power connection with the host
computer. For the 4352, remove the power cord from the drive.
3.
For internal drives, remove the drive from the computer.
For the 4352 drive, turn the unit upside down and remove the four screws (two screws on each side)
that attach the drive cover to the chassis unit Remove the drive cover and retain the screws.
Figure 4-5 shows the Python 4322 3.5-inch drive with the cover removed; Figure 4-6 shows the
Python 4542 internal drive with the cover removed; Figure 4-7 shows the Python 4352 external
drive with the cover removed.

Turn the mode motor shaft counterclockwise (from front view) until the posts retract into the
cassette, and the mode motor stops.
5.
Push the front roller in and turn it clockwise (from top view) until the tape is wound on the supply
reel, and the roller stops.
6.
Rotate the rear cassette gear counterclockwise (from top view) until the cassette ejects.
7.
Reassemble the drive and reconnect it to the computer.
