ARCHIVE PYTHON DDS-DC OAT DRIVES---PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MANUAL
The SCSI MODE SELECf command can switch the Python DDS-DC drive into compressed or
uncompressed mode for writing data regardless of the position of the S6 DIP switch. When reading, the
drive automatically selects compressed or uncompressed mode.
4.3 Front Panel LED Operation
The front panel of the Python DDS-DC drives contains two rectangular LEDs.
One rectangular LED
indicates the drive status; the other, the cassette status. These two indicators provide operating information
for normal as well as error conditions.
The 4352 external subsystem also contains a round, green power-on LED on the front panel.
The amber, rectangular Drive Status LED indicates the following conditions:
o
When ON (lit), the drive is reading or writing the tape. (SCSI or DAT activity is present.) During a
SCSI Prevent Media Removal command, the LED is always ON.
NOTE: Do not push the eject button while this LED is ON. If you do, the operation in
progress is aborted and the cassette is ejected, possibly causing a loss of data.
o
When flashing rapidly, a hardware fault has occurred or dew (excessively high humidity) was
detected. If this situation occurs immediately after power-on (and switch 8 is ON), the power-on
self-test may have failed. In that case, the drive will not operate.
NOTE: Some guidelines for operation in high humidity conditions are listed in Chapter 9.
The green, rectangular Cassette Status LED indicates the following conditions:
o
When ON (lit), a cassette is inserted and does NOT generate excess errors.
o
When flashing slowly, a cassette is inserted but generates excessive errors beyond a predefined
DDS error threshold. First, clean the drive heads using an approved DDS DAT cleaning cassette
(such as the Archive Model M7301).
NOTE: As routine maintenance, the drive heads should be cleaned after every
25
hours of
operation. See Chapter 9 for more information about maintenance.
If the LED continues flashing or flashes when ejecting the cassette, use a new cassette for future
writes. Otherwise, operation is proceeding normally. This signal is a warning only.
o
When flashing slowly in conjunction with the amber LED, a prerecorded audio cassette is inserted
and is being played automatically.
o
When flashing rapidly, the drive could not write the tape correctly (maximum rewrite count
exceeded). The WRITE operation failed. First, clean the drive heads using an approved DDS DAT
cleaning cassette, such as the Archive Model M7301. If the LED continues flashing, use a new
cassette for future writes.
The round, green LED on the 4352 drive illuminates when power is applied to the drive.
