Start-up

!
Position the BEA 040 on the Bosch tester such that
the BEA 040 cannot fall off and be damaged when
attaching the combi sensor.
!
Never attach the combi sensor to extremely hot
components (e.g. exhaust manifold).
i
Prior to start-up, make sure the mains voltage coin-
cides with the voltage specified on the power supply
unit.

!
Use can be made of the connecting cable for the
clip-on sensor signal (1 684 460 283) for diesel
vehicles. In this case, the metal connector end of the
connecting cable for the clip-on sensor signal must
be plugged in at the Bosch tester and the plastic
connector end at the BEA 040. It is also essential
to clip the battery terminal B‒ of the Bosch tester
to the metal housing of the combi sensor (Fig. 3,
item 1).
!
With the BEA 030, BEA 055, BEA 060 or BEA 065,
use can only be made of the connecting cable
1 684 463 810 (special accessory) for connec-
tion to the BEA 040. In this case, the BEA 040 is
supplied with power by the BEA 030, BEA 055,
BEA 060 or BEA 065 by way of the connecting cable
1 684 463 810 and the power supply unit (fig. 2,
item 4) must not be connected.
4.2

Notes on speed measurement

The measurement results are influenced by the suit-
ability of the attachment location. In a vehicle engine
compartment there are several bolt heads or flat metal
parts suitable for attachment of the combi sensor with
the magnetic base. Further attachment locations for
the combi sensor include mounting brackets, oil drain
plugs, exhaust pipe clamps, brake lever mounts, heat
shields or assembly mounts.
If the status LED of the BEA 040 and the combi sensor
LED are still lit (red) after ten seconds with the engine
idling, a different attachment location must be selected
for the combi sensor.
4.3
CDC – Central Device Communication
If the BEA 040 is used for speed measurement, se-
lection must be made in the CDC under "Settings
>>Device interfaces" of the MTM device type which is
to receive the speed signal from the BEA 040 via the
clip-on trigger, the connecting cable for the clip-on
sensor signal 1 684 460 283 or the connecting cable
1 684 463 810.
