Question 7.
Carrier Select
(Auto)
Use the [SPACE] key to choose the method by which the 7835C will
select its cellular carrier: "A" side or "B" side. The radio will test for up
to three carriers on a given side and chooses the best one for that side
based on MicroBurst availability and signal strength. If "Auto" or Auto
Roam" is chosen, the radio tests both sides. Once a carrier is chosen, the
radio locks onto it by setting itself to home only mode. This prevents
unwanted roaming in border installations. All detected carriers are stored
in EEPROM. In the event that the coverage becomes degraded, the radio
will switch to another one of the stored carriers if it has MicroBurst. If
the radio is NOT registered, it will actively test for service when the list
in the EEPROM is exhausted.
Auto:
This mode is used in fixed installations where the 7835C tests both
sides and chooses the best of both sides. If the radio loses
coverage, it will cycle through the list of carriers stored in
EEPROM. When the list is exhausted, the radio will actively test
for service if it is NOT registered. If it is registered, it will go back
to the top of the list and try again. If the radio remains out of
coverage for 24 hours, it will actively test for service as it did the
first time it was powered up
Auto Roam:
This mode is used in mobile installations where the 7835C tests
both sides and chooses the best of both sides. If the radio loses
coverage, it will cycle through the list of carriers stored in
EEPROM. When the list is exhausted, the radio will actively test
for service whether or not it is registered.
A Only:
This mode is used in fixed installations where the 7835C tests only
the A side and chooses the best if more than one carrier was found.
If the radio loses coverage, it will cycle through the list of carriers
stored in EEPROM. When the list is exhausted, the radio will
actively test for service if it is NOT registered. If it is registered, it
will go back to the top of the list and try again.
B Only:
This mode is used in fixed installations where the 7835C tests only
the B side and chooses the best if more than one carrier was found.
If the radio loses coverage, it will cycle through the list of carriers
stored in EEPROM. When the list is exhausted, the radio will
actively test for service if it is NOT registered. If it is registered, it
will go back to the top of the list and try again.
