CONNECTIONS – PLUMBING
The plumbing arrangements for the solar heated water outlet of the solar
storage tank and the water inlet of a tank mounted in-series gas booster
are shown on page
41. The
are shown on page 43.
This solar storage tank has either a plastic dip tube or fitting liner in the
inlet and outlet fittings (see diagram). These must be in place for the
water heater to function properly. Do not remove or damage them by
using heat nearby. They will be pushed into the correct position as the
fitting is screwed in.
This water heater is intended to be permanently connected to the water mains and not connected by a hose-
set. A braided flexible hose or semi-flexible connector may be used for connection to the water heater, where
permitted by AS/NZS 3500.4.
PIPE SIZES
To achieve true mains pressure operation, the cold water line to the water heater should be the same size or
bigger than the hot water line from the water heater. The minimum recommended hot pipe size is DN20.
The pipe sizing for hot water supply systems should be carried out by persons competent to do so, choosing
the most suitable pipe size for each individual application. Reference to the technical specifications of the water
heater and local regulatory authority requirements must be made.
IN-SERIES BOOSTER – INTEGRATED
An insulated DN15 preformed copper pipe and braided flexible hose assembly is supplied for connecting
between the solar heated water outlet and a Rheem 874820 or 874826 model in-series gas booster mounted
onto the solar storage tank.
Warning: A model in-series gas booster greater than 26 litre capacity cannot be mounted on the solar
storage tank and may only be installed remotely. The size and weight of the gas booster may cause the solar
storage tank to topple over.
Notes:
Use thread sealing tape or an approved thread sealant on all sealing threads.
Numbers in parentheses
Ensure the storage tank has been secured to the wall with the wall brackets provided before mounting the
solar gas booster. Refer to
To mount the in-series gas booster to the solar
storage tank:
Insert the M6 x 12 screw (8) into the nutsert
at the top front of the solar storage tank.
Screw in approximately 3/4 of the way,
leaving space to hang the solar gas booster
water heater by its top hanging bracket.
Hang the solar gas booster onto the mounting
bracket, by placing the centre hole in the top
hanging bracket over the M6 x 12 screw (8).
Secure the top hanging bracket of the solar
gas booster by fully tightening the M6 x 12
screw.
Secure the bottom hanging bracket of the
solar gas booster to the solar storage tank,
using the two no 8 x 13 self-tapping
screws (7) supplied, through the horizontal
slots in the bracket.
