    1. O VERVIEW 1.1. Overview of This Manual This installation manual is a step-by-step instruction for the installation and setup of the Hatch iStartSmart All in One (AIO) system. It goes hand in hand with two checklists. 1.1.1. How to Use the Manual Print the iStartSmart Installation and Functional checklists.     1.2. System Overview Your Hatch iStartSmart AIO is a complete learning station, with a desk, printer, and computer. The desk is made of plywood and sturdy laminate. The desk adjusts from 18"H to 26"H in 2" increments, and has four locking casters. It measures 36" wide by 30" deep, and the desk top adjusts from 16" to 22 3/8" in 2" increments. The AIO has a touch sensitive computer screen. It enables a child to run the Hatch iStartSmart learning activities by touching the screen, as well as by mouse or keyboard. 1.2.1. Included Hardware and Software iStartSmart All in One The system includes a complete kit, containing: • An AIO computer with 21.5” display • Keyboard and Mouse input devices • A printer, with paper and ink • An adjustable 36 X 30” desk, with a keyboard rack and printer shelf *The chair and Rug pictured are not included.

    1.2.2. Room Requirements The desk has castor wheels, and may be moved anywhere you desire, as long as there is a power outlet close at hand. Room temperatures and humidity that are suitable for a classroom are sufficient for the location. 1.3. Keep your work area segregated from the usual room occupants. • Perform all installation work correctly according to this manual. • Make sure that all specified screws and brackets are used in the installation. • Never attempt to modify the units. • Make sure that all screws are tightened after installation and adjustments. There must be no loose or over tightened screws. 1.4. Preparing and Tools to Perform the Installation To complete the installation you will need a few tools, and the knowledge of how to use them.

    2. U NPACKING 2.1. Cautions Use caution when cutting packing tape. Be careful not to pierce Cut packing strips with deep enough to slash or cut the equipment. Plastic packing strips flush cut pliers are tough; use a flush cut pliers or robust scissors. To protect hardware, do not walk on or put heavy items on the boxes. Note: small screws and materials are in bagged kits in the boxes. Identify and remove these kits while unpacking the larger items. 2.2. Inventory Boxes Ensure you have: 1. The AIO computer box 2.     3. D SSEMBLY NSTRUCTIONS 3.1. Overview of the Assembly The assembly involves unpacking the desk base, installing the desk top, and then mounting the AIO display onto the desk. You will complete the assembly by installing the associated input and output devices. The procedure takes about 1.5 hours. *The chair pictured is not included with the AIO.

    3.2. Adjust the Desk Base 1. Open the desk top box and remove the top. Set it aside. The top surface has a Hatch logo. 2. Open the large desk base box. Remove the base which is collapsed for shipping.
  • Page 11 3. Retrieve the hardware kit that was in the base box. You should have (2) XARS Locking Casters (2) XFOY Non-Locking Casters, (5) 1” XBTUHexdrive screws, and (2)XBHD 1 9/16” Decorative Screws. (1) XAUS 4mm hex wrench is also provided. (2) XARS Locking Casters and (2) XFOY Non-Locking Casters (2) XBHD 1- 9/16 (5) XBTU 1” Hexdrive Decorative Screws Screws 4. On the base, temporarily remove the 4 inner screws to allow the desk height to be adjusted. 5. For adjustments, there are 3 top holes, and 2 base holes. This allows 5 different heights. If a desk height is specified, select the hole combination that will be needed.

    6. Expand the desk to the height specified in the work order. 7. If no height is listed, use the middle set of holes on the desk, with top holes on the base for the standard height of 20 3/8” for Pre-K configurations. Pre-K 8. Line up the holes, and then insert the 4 screws Height (removed earlier) on the inside. Checklist item 1. Pre-K Confirm either a Height specified or standard height. Photograph this step to document configuration. 3.3. Assemble the Desk Base 1. Using the XAUS 4mm Hex wrench (one is provided), remove the (2) central 1” XBTUHexdrive screws that hold the printer shelf in its shipping position. Set the screws aside for use in step 4.
  • Page 13 2. Turn the printer shelf upside down. The two wooden studs will be used underneath the main desk top to affix the printer stand. 3. Slide the printer shelf underneath the main desk top. It should be orientated so that the studs are under the desk, and the shelf extends out from the curved area. Checklist item 2. Confirm printer stand extends into the curved side of the main desk. 4. Attach the printer shelf by inserting the (2) central 1” XBTUHexdrive screws that were removed in step 1 through the top, into the two studs. Tighten the screws by hand. Do not use power tools to tighten.

    5. Insert (2)XBHD 1 9/16” Decorative Screws through the center of the printer shelf and secure it to the vertical riser below. 6. Tighten the screws with 1 XAUS 4mm hex wrench that is included in the desk hardware. 3.4. Mount the Desktop and Install Wheels 1. Retrieve the top of the desk, and place face down on the floor (the 5 pre-drilled mounting holes should be facing up). Place the base assembly onto the bottom of the desk top. The two curved surfaces go on the same side. Align the 5 screw holes.
  • Page 15 2. Insert the (5) 1” XBTUHexdrive screws and tighten them with the included XAUS 4mm hex wrench (3 of the 5 are pictured to the left). 3. Retrieve the(2) XARS Locking Casters (2) XFOY Non-Locking Casters Separate the locking 2 XARS Locking casters to be used on the back of the desk base. 4.     4. S ETUP THE OMPUTER 4.1. Unpack the Computer Box Open the AIO computer box, remove the AIO computer. Next, open the inner box. A packing list is included. Verify you have the following items: 1. The AIO computer 2. An AC power adapter cable 3. A Getting Started Card 4. Hatch AIO Warranty Information Card 5. A surge protector 6. A 10’ patch cable 7.   • Page 17 1. Retrieve the AIO computer and hardware kit. Insert the long mounting screws into the base of the AIO. *The mounting screws may be difficult to start due to extra powder coat near the mounting holes. Use of both wing- nuts will allow you to apply more pressure to insert the rod into the base. Once you have tightened the first screw you can then move on to secure the second screw using the same method. 2. Note the location of the two holes in the desk top. These will be for the screws in the AIO base. The front of the display faces away from the printer shelf.
  • Page 18 3. Place the AIO with the screen facing the front of the desk, threading the two screws through the desk top holes. Checklist item 3. Confirm the two thumbscrews are used under the display. 4. Affix and hand tighten the thumbscrews underneath. 5. Insert the power cable, USB mouse, USB keyboard to the I/O ports located at the bottom center of the AIO computer.
  • Page 19 6. Retrieve the surge protector. The surge protector is mounted via the two screws in the base crosspiece. Unscrew both screws about ¼”, then place the search protector’s mounting holes over the screws, sliding it to lock into place. 7. If the keyboard is not to be used, it can be stored in the rack on the side of the desk. *Pictured rug is not included.

    4.2. Setup the Printer 1. Open the Printer box, and remove the printer. Remove any packing materials and tape. 2. Insert the paper feed tray into the slots on the back of the printer. 3. 3. Place the printer on the printer shelf with the front of the printer facing the back of the computer.
  • Page 21 4. Insert the USB cable. Plug the other end into an available USB port on the AIO. 5. Insert the three-hole power cable. Plug the other end into the surge protector, routing the cable through the oval hole in the shelf. The ink may be installed when the printer is first turned on so that the carriage moves to the center of the track for easy access.
  • Page 22 6. The AIO assembly is complete, Provide the customer with the Getting Started Card, Hatch Headphones and included printer paper and Ethernet cable if not used during the installation. 7. Press the power button and confirm the computer boots into Windows.
  • Page 23 8. Once the computer has powered on it will automatically launch OOBE (Out of Box Experience) to guide you through connecting to the Wireless Network. 9. Select the wireless network from the list and enter the network password. ! You must obtain the network credentials from the teacher or administrator. If you are unable to connect to the network at the time of installation you will need to contact Hatch Technical Support at 336-464-1974 10. Once you are connected you will see the following confirmation screen. Select Continue. 11. Take a photo of the sign in screen showing You have successfully connected to the sites network. Photograph this step. Once you have taken the photo press ALT +F4 to exit out to the Windows desktop to complete the functional checklist.

    4.3. Perform Functional Check Your system has three input devices, an interactive touchscreen a keyboard, and a mouse. Confirm all three are working properly.
