6.3.2

DHCP

There are many Unix systems that support DHCP protocol, and the
procedures to configure the DHCP s erver databas e are different. This
manual does not describe the DHCP server c onfiguration on the Unix
systems. It is highly recommended that the DHCP server should be located
on the same network as the print server.
6.3.3

BOOTP

If you have the BOOTP daemon, bootpd, running on your UNIX system
that is accessible by the print server, you can us e the BOOTP protoc ol to
set up the IP address of the print server. We recommend that the BOOTP
server should be located on the same s ubnet as the print s erver. If you use
Network Information Servic es (NIS) in your s ys tem, you may need to
rebuild the NIS map with the BOOTP services before doing the following
BOOTP configuration. To rebuild the NIS map, please refer to your system
documentation.
To c onfigure the IP address data for the BOOTP s erver, you will need
to log in the hos t of BOOTP server as the s uperuser (root). Perform the
following steps to add address entries ,
1. Optionally, assign a name corresponding to the print server 's IP address .
You can add this address to the /etc /hos ts file, by adding a line suc h as :
2. Add an entry to the hos t's /etc /bootptab file, similar to the following:
Lines should be indented with tabs .
Where hostname is the device name of a print server, the ht=1 tag
specifies the hardware type is Ethernet, the ha= tag specifies the Ethernet
address of a print server, whic h is the Node ID located on the print server.
The ha tag mus t be preceded by the ht tag. The ip= tag s hould correspond
to the IP address you want to ass ign to the print server.
