Eggtimer Proton Airstart Quick Reference
General Rules for Successful Airstarts
SIMULATE EVERYTHING FIRST!!!
Your booster motor's thrust:weight ratio should ideally be 10:1 or above.
Your separation time should be at least 120% of the motor's burn time.
You should fire the sustainer's igniter at least ½ second after separation, longer is OK.
Don't use high-thrust motors like VMax's in the booster.
If you expect your booster to get you near mach, increase the sample rate and reduce the
LDA altitude to ensure that the timer is triggered.
Use an altitude or velocity qualification if your booster motor's thrust:weight is < 10:1 or
your stability is < 2C, or if you're waiting an extended amount of time before firing the
sustainer motor.
