Appendix A – Deployment Channel Testing
The Proton has some special testing functions built in, in particular you can test the deployment
channels with your battery and igniter combination to make sure that when it fires you aren't
going to get any nasty surprises (such as the Proton resetting in flight, or the igniter not firing
because the battery can't source enough current).
Deployment Channel Testing
Whenever you try a new type of igniter and/or battery, you should test them together by doing a
deployment channel test. This ensures that your battery and igniter combination will work
during a flight... you don't want to find out that there's an issue afterwards!
Note: Do NOT perform tests with a live charge until you have become familiar with this
procedure, and are at a safe distance away from the rocket! We recommend 30' to the side... the
range of the Proton's WiFi outdoors is well over 100', so you can step away from your rocket
safely while performing a deployment test.
There is a special URL that is used to connect to the test page, which is not accessible from the
normal pages. This has been done so that you cannot accidentally put it into test mode while
your rocket is sitting on the pad or your workbench.
