DSL or cable modem. The BR L-04EX provides extensive firewall protection and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. The BRL-04EX provides m any cos t-effecti ve functi ons and management benefits. It is simple to configure and can be up and running in minutes.
● Virtual Server If you have a static IP address, you can set up the BRL-04EX to act as a virtual host for network address t ranslat ion. Rem ote users acces s various services at your site using the static IP address. Then, depending on the requested service (or port number), the BRL-04EX routes the request to the appropriat e server (at an int ernal network IP address).
Hardware Description The BRL-04EX Broadband Router may be connected to the Internet or to a remote site using its RJ-45 WAN port. It may be connected directly to your PC or to a l ocal area network using any of the four 10/ 100 autos ensi ng switch ports.

Though Internet access speed is determined by the modem type connected to your BRL-04EX, data passing between devices connected to your local Rear Panel area network can run up to 100 Mbps over the Fast Ethernet ports.

To access the Internet through the BRL-04EX Broadband Router, you must configure the network settings of the computers on your LAN to use the s ame IP subnet as the BRL-04EX. The defaul t network sett ings for the BRL-04EX are: IP Address: 192.168.1.1...
BRL-04EX After you have configured TCP/IP on a client computer, use a web browser t o confi gure the BR L-04EX Broadband R outer. The BRL-04EX can be configured by any Java-supported browser including Internet Explorer 4.0 or above, or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or above. Using the web management interface, you may configure the BRL-04EX and view statistics to monitor network activity.
Navigating the Web Browser Interface The B RL-04EX' management int erface features a Setup, a St at us and a Tools section. Use the Setup if you want to quickly setup the BRL-04EX for use with a cable modem or DSL modem.

Obtain an IP address automatically. The Host Name is optional, but may be required by some ISPs. The default MAC address is set to the WAN's physical interface on the BRL-04EX. BRL-04EX BRL-04EX DMZ Setting Status The St at us screen di splays WAN/LAN connect ion status, firmware, and hardware version numbers, illegal attempts to access your network, as well as information on DHCP clients connected to your network. If you have a client PC that cannot run an Internet application properly from behind the firewall, then you can open the client up to unrestricted two-way Internet access.
