102 Seats and stowing
wards, e.g. when braking suddenly or in the
event of an accident.
If this is the case, the vehicle occupant

would be forced into the seat belt by the
rear bench seat/rear seat or by the seat
backrest. The seat belt cannot protect as
intended and could result in additional
injury.
Objects or loads in the trunk/cargo com‐
R
partment cannot be restrained by the
seat backrest.
Make sure that the seat backrest and
#
the rear bench seat/rear seat are
engaged before every trip.
If the left and right seat backrests are not
engaged and locked, this will be shown on the
multifunction display of the instrument cluster. A
warning tone will also sound.
If the center seat backrest is not engaged and
locked, the red lock verification indicator will be
visible.
The center and outer seat backrests can be fol‐
ded forwards separately.
Vehicles without a memory function:

Move the driver's or front passenger seat for‐
wards, if necessary.
Vehicles with a memory function: If at
#
least one section of the rear seat backrest is
folded forwards, the corresponding front seat
will move forwards slightly, if necessary, to
avoid a collision.
If necessary, fully insert the rear seat back‐
#
rest head restraints.
Left and right seat backrests: pull the left
#
or right release handle 1.
The corresponding seat backrest will fold for‐
wards.
Center seat backrest: pull release catch
#
