Fluid Level -
Autom atic Transmission
A t re g u la r in te rvals and p rio r to a
lo n g trip , ch e c k a u to m a tic tra n s m is ­
sion flu id level and e n g in e oil level.
C heck tra n s m is s io n flu id level w ith
th e e n g in e id lin g , pa rkin g brake en­
gaged and s e le c to r lever in p o s itio n
" P " . The v e h icle m ust be parked on
level g ro u n d . P rio r to th e check, al­
lo w e n g ine to idle fo r ap p ro x. 1 to 2
m inutes.
M easure flu id level w ith the d ip s tic k
c o m p le te ly inserted and th e lo ck in g
lever released (1).
E xtrem e cle a n lin ess m ust be o b ­
served!
To w ip e th e d ip s tic k , use a clean,
lin tfre e clo th .
To fill th e tra n s m is s io n w ith flu id ,
p o u r it th ro u g h a fine-m esh filte r
in to the d ip s tic k o p en in g. Even
the s lig h te s t im p u rity may cause
o p e ra tio n a l tro u b le s.
The flu id level in the tra n sm issio n is
d e p e n d e n t upon its tem perature.
The m a xim u m and m in im u m oil
level m arks on the d ip s tic k are ap­
p lica b le references o n ly if the tra n s­
m issio n flu id has reached its norm al
o p e ra tin g te m p e ra tu re o f 80° Cl
176° F.
If tra n sm issio n flu id co o ls dow n to
2 0 -3 0 ° C /6 8 -8 6 0 F, w h ic h is the
norm al sh o p te m p e ra tu re range,
then the m a xim u m flu id level w ill be
a p p ro x im a te ly 12 mm /0.5 in below
th e m in im u m m ark on the d ip stick.
We stress th is p o in t because a flu id
ch a n g e is n o rm a lly p erfo rm ed when
th e tra n sm iss io n flu id has cooled
do w n to sh op te m perature.
The flu id level m ust not exceed the
d ip s tic k m a xim u m m ark w ith the
flu id at o p e ra tin g te m perature.
Drain o r sip h o n o ff excess flu id , if
required.
Then push d ip s tic k all the way in
and sw in g lo c k in g lever d o w n w ard s
