    Prerequisite to the safe handling and trouble-free opera- tion of the eFutureSafe is a thorough knowledge of the ap- plicable safety information and the safety regulations. It is therefore imperative that this Chapter is read thor- oughly before operating the eFutureSafe and that the in- structions and warnings herein are strictly observed.

    Safety Proper Use The eFutureSafe is designed solely for use in a vehicle as a head- and back-support for persons who are driving a car whilst seated in a wheelchair. The driver seated in the wheelchair must wear the seat belts provided in the vehicle.

    Safety Danger Zone The danger zone is any area within the swivelling range of the eFutureSafe, in which a person at risk of being injured or harmed. CAUTION! Risk of injury through movements of the eFutureSafe. There are a number of risks of personal injury if standing within the danger zone.

    Adhere to the following notes in order to prevent personal injuries and material damage.  The eFutureSafe must only be used for the purpose for which it is intended (proper use), otherwise dangerous situations, with result injuries, may occur (Proper use: see Section 1.1, page 9).

    Description 2.1.1 Floor mount and side support bracket The eFutureSafe is anchored to the floor of the vehicle by its floor mount and special mounting components. In addi- tion to this, the eFutureSafe is anchored to the B-pillar by means of a vehicle-specific side support bracket. In the event of an accident, the forces acting are absorbed by the floor mount and the side support.

    Such risks can not only occur during installation but also as a result of installation not being carried out correctly. Therefore:  The eFutureSafe must only be installed in the vehicle by trained, experienced technicians.  The vehicle manufacturer's body fitting guidelines must be adhered to.

    Make certain that there are no obstacles within the swivelling range of the eFutureSafe. WARNING! Risk of personal injury and material damage. If its path is blocked by obstacles, the eFutureSafe can not be swivelled to the parking position. You can not get out of the vehicle. Therefore: ...

    NOTE Always ensure that the eFutureSafe is in the parking posi- tion when the vehicle is parked. If the eFutureSafe is in the driving position, the green indicator lamp will be lit and there is a risk that this will discharge the starter battery.

    Operation 5.3 Swivelling the eFutureSafe to the Driving Position The eFutureSafe is in the driving position when it is swiv- elled forwards (see Figure 6).  Remove any bags or other objects from the wheel- chair's backrest.  Assume the driving position behind the steering wheel.

    Have the eFutureSafe adjusted by a second person. Repeat the adjustment of the eFutureSafe if you use a dif- ferent wheelchair. The eFutureSafe must also be re-adjusted if there is a change of driver.

    NOTE Have the following adjustments made for you by a second person. Remember that the adjustment of the eFutureSafe de- scribed here represents the ideal case. Always try to find a balance between maximum protection and maximum comfort when making adjustments.

    5.5 Emergency Release for the eFutureSafe NOTE The emergency release facility allows the eFutureSafe to be swivelled to the park position if the electric drive fails. This allows you to leave your vehicle in such a case. This also allows you to be evacuated more easily if the vehicle is involved in an accident.

    Read the safety information before carrying out mainte- nance and repair work (see Chapter 1, page 8). WARNING! There is a risk of injury if the eFutureSafe is used after it has been involved in an accident.      Only allow experienced technicians to carry out repair work. If faults occur when operating the eFutureSafe, proceed as described in the following troubleshooting table. Contact the customer service department if faults are encountered which cannot be remedied using the information and measures given in the table.
