SAFE T Y EQUIPMENT
US and Canadian Coast Guard regulations require the following:
One Coastguard approved personal flotation device or life
jacket of appropriate size for each paddler
One buoyant heaving line of not less than 15m in length
A watertight flashlight or 3 approved flares of Type A, B or C
A sound signalling device (whistle or air horn)
A bailer or bilge pump
In addition, it is also recommended to carry the following
as supplemental safety gear:
Change of clothing in case of capsize
Water bottle
Energy bar
Sunscreen
First aid kit including safety blanket
Matches and fire starters
Float or Trip Plan
