TR ACKING SYS TEMS
Skeg
Our performance touring kayak models come with the option of a skeg system
instead of a rudder system. A skeg is located under the hull near the stern of your
kayak. It is deployed by a cord on the left side of the cockpit and secured by a
cleat. Simply release the cord from the cleat to deploy fully or in increments for
partial deployment as needed. The skeg is used to increase tracking but unlike
a rudder, does not help steer the kayak. Our skeg system is spring loaded so if
you do happen to go over a submerged object, it will retract into the skeg box and
spring back out when no longer obstructed. Our skeg uses a static cord instead
of a cable to eliminate any possibility of kinking.
For best practice, retract the skeg into the skeg box before beaching or when
launching to avoid potential damage to the skeg blade and box.
