6.1 Proper care of the sensor

Prior to taking X-rays, each staff member should be fully trained and have a complete
understanding of how to care for the sensor. Not adhering to the following rules to
protect the sensor may potentially result in malfunction or permanent damage.
• Store the sensor in the sensor garage when it is not in use.
• Do not allow a patient to bite down onto the sensor or cable.
CAUTION! Biting down onto the sensor or cable will damage the housing and/
or cable and lead to a sensor malfunction. It is highly recommended to use the
FS Ergo sensor holders because they are designed to protect the sensor. If you
choose to NOT use an FS Ergo sensor holder, you must protect the sensor and the
cable.
• Do not roll over the cables with a cart or chair.
• Do not allow the sensor cable to be pinched in a drawer, door, or cabinet.
• Do not twist, coil, or wrap the sensor cable tightly around any objects.
• Do not insert foreign objects into the sensor cable connector.
• Do not drop the sensor.
• Do not clamp the sensor with devices that exert excessive force (for example,
hemostats, or clamps of any type).
CAUTION! Do not autoclave the sensor. Autoclave sterilizers will permanently
damage the sensor.
CAUTION! Do not use chemical heat sterilizers. The sensor material may
deteriorate when using unapproved chemicals.
Decontaminate the sensor and cable in accordance with CDC, or your country's (e.g.,
OSHA) standards, for infection control. We recommend that you wipe the sensor with
one of the following cleaning agent:
• CaviCide
Other cleaning agent options:
• Optim T33B (Distributed by SciCan)
• Birex-Asepticare
• Sani-Cloth Plus (Distributed by Crosstex)
• Pro Spray (Distributed by Certol)
WARNING! The sheath must be removed after each patient. The sensor must be
cleaned and disinfected after each patient by rubbing with CaviCide

6.2 Prosessing of the sensor holders

WARNING! Contaminated products are associated with an infection risk.
The FS Ergo sensor holders can be sterilized in a steam autoclave using distilled water at
temperature of 275°F (135°C) for 10 minutes with minimum drying time of 30 minutes.
However, certain restrictions apply:
• Clean the holder throughout by using tap water (+ 30°C ± 5°C) and a brush (e.g.
medium-hard toothbrush). Dry the holder after cleaning.
